I'm a passionate freelance illustrator who loves bringing stories and characters to life through expressive and dynamic visuals. My artistic journey started in childhood—where I was that one kid who would rather sketch eyes than pay attention in class. Over the years, my love for art grew into a full-blown career. I honed my skills through art school 🎨, working in game art 🎮, and eventually becoming a book illustrator, collaborating with incredible authors and publishers like Sarah A. Parker, Tahereh Mafi, and Penguin Random House. My focus has always been on creating art that captures emotion, tells stories, and connects with people on a deeper level. ✨

This course features 9 modules, with over 46 video lessons totaling 13+ hours of engaging content. You'll also receive an exercise book, real-life references, and a full Procreate lesson to support your learning and help you get the most out of the course. You can pause and replay the videos as much as you want. This intermediate course is suitable for artists of all ages who already have a basic understanding of portrait drawing and want to strengthen their skills. In the first two modules, you'll be introduced to the course structure, learning goals, and recommended tools and materials. You'll also receive a comprehensive Procreate lesson to help you become familiar with the workflow used throughout the course. From there, we'll revisit the foundations of portrait drawing through the Loomis Method, explore the anatomy of the skull, and learn how to simplify the face into clear, manageable planes. You'll also discover common portrait drawing mistakes and how to avoid them, building a stronger foundation for the more advanced concepts ahead.
MODULE 3-4
Head Volumes, Perspective & Light Logic
In these modules, you'll take your understanding of portrait structure to the next level. First, you'll learn how to construct the head in three-dimensional space, draw it from a variety of angles, and handle challenging perspective and foreshortening situations with confidence. Then, we'll dive into the principles of lighting and shading, exploring values, form shadows, cast shadows, and how light influences depth, realism, and mood. These concepts will help you create portraits that feel more solid, believable, and visually compelling.

Expressions, Character Variations & Storytelling
In these modules, you'll learn how to create portraits that feel expressive and full of personality. We'll begin by studying facial expressions, facial muscles, and the movement behind believable emotions. Next, you'll explore how age, gender, and structural variations influence facial appearance, allowing you to create more diverse and authentic characters. Finally, we'll focus on composition, color theory, and storytelling, helping you use visual choices intentionally to communicate mood, emotion, and narrative through your portraits.

Advanced Applications & Personal Style
In the final phase of the course, we'll bring everything together. You'll apply your knowledge of structure, perspective, lighting, expressions, and composition to create complete portraits and original character designs. You'll learn how to work from live and photo references, plan your artwork through thumbnailing and silhouette studies, and develop stronger creative decision-making skills. The course concludes with a final portrait project and guidance on developing your personal artistic style, leaving you with a finished piece that showcases everything you've learned.
